1.You must be at least 18 years of age.

The requirements to become a notary in New York

-Be a resident of New York State or employed in the state as a full-time salaried employee of the United States government, any state government, any county government, any city government, any village government, any town government, or any school district
-Not have been convicted of a felony
You must also complete a Notary Public Course approved by the New York Department of State. After completing the course and passing an examination, you must submit an application to the Department of State with the following:
-A completed Notary Public License Application
-A $60 fee payable to the “Commissioner of Motor Vehicles”
-A passport-style photograph taken within 30 days prior to submission
The steps to become a notary in New York

3. Once your application has been accepted, you will be contacted by the county clerk to schedule your Notary Public Exam. After you pass the exam, you will be issued a commission as a notary public for a four-year term.
