The West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office is responsible for appointing and commissioning notaries public in the state of West Virginia. In order to become a notary public in West Virginia, you must meet the following requirements:
-You must be 18 years of age or older.
-You must be a resident of West Virginia or have a valid business location in the state.
-You must complete a Notary Public License Application and pay the required fee.
-You must submit proof of successful completion of a Notary Education Course approved by the Secretary of State’s office.
-You must submit fingerprintCard(s) from a law enforcement agency approved by the Secretary of State’s office.
-After your application has been reviewed and approved, you will be scheduled for an appointment with a Notary Public Commissioning Officer in the county in which you reside or have your business location. At this appointment, you will take the Oath of Office and receive your official seal and certificate identifying you as a notary public for West Virginia.
